Spring Kickoff C of C Men’s Rugby vs Outlaws B Side
The College of Charleston Men’s Rugby Club played a physical match against a bigger, stronger, and more experienced Charleston Outlaws B-Side squad. For about the first fifteen minutes of the game C of C held its own. The first half featured several try-line stands deep in C of C’s territory. With their backs against the wall, an undersized C of C club displayed solid tackling and a lot of heart. However, the size, experience, and depth of the Outlaws had taken its toll before the half. Despite the odds, C of C kept fighting. Senior outside center Timothy O’Donnell intercepted three Outlaws passes earning him “Man of the Match” honors. O’Donnell would have scored on two of his takeaways had they not been called back for questionable penalties. In the second half, sophomore wing Marcus Rojas scored C of C’s lone try of the match. The conversion attempt was missed by team president and senior fly-half Chris Natoli. He also had a couple errant kicks with Outlaws bearing down on him, which got him deemed “Dick of the Day”. Somebody has to win the award. The Outlaws B-Side won by a final count of 29-5.
C of C’s next match is Feb. 8 at 1pm against the formidable C of C Alumni. The Alumni, featuring starters from numerous club teams around the country, will field a far superior squad than what C of C just faced in the Charleston Outlaws B-Side. The Alumni will look to teach the current squad a few on-field lessons as well as rack up at least a few dozen points in the process.
